Step 1. Get a donor PC.
Find an old computer of any configuration that is suitable for this project.
It should be
A laptop that runs Windows 2000 or above.
Has 256 MB-8GB of RAM(random access memory)
Can run on battery power
No luck? Search around one more time or buy one of these laptops:

Toshiba Portege Z830
Step 2:Install the OS
Download one of the OSes from its respective website:
Ubuntu(Link for 11.10 or 10.04 fans and those who want to build a Retrobook):http://www.ubuntu.com/download
Ubuntu(Do not download anything that is not an ISO here):http://releases.ubuntu.com/10.10/
